You may or may not be aware but there's websites out there selling Instagram followers.
You simply pay a few pounds and you can gain yourself up to 5,000 followers (and then some), and they're all going to interact with you.
Wrong. They're not.
This is something that a lot of people have fallen for - they don't interact with you, and you're not going to gain anymore likes.
Also, if it's not organic, it's not really worthwhile anyway, is it?
It isn't all doom and gloom. There are many ways that you can gain followers and grow your network organically, if you implement a few little tactics into your activity.
Firstly, you may hear people talking about 'hashtag strategy' - this is the style of hash tags and highly ranked tags that you are using within your posts.
For example, #love is the most popular hashtag used on Instagram, however there are many that rank highly within different categories.
Obviously, ensure that your tags are relevant and you're interacting with the right audience - maybe research what your competitors are doing for some tips and tricks.
Interacting with your current followers
When people are commenting on your images, it's important that you're reciprocating that, both with replies to their comments and likes and comments on their posts - mutual appreciation is key!
